A quick update for you regarding the hacking issues in MW3, we'll be releasing a patch either end of this week or next week which will enable P2P checks in our servers. This will help Steam detect whether the players you're hosting or joining are valid players.

 

 

 

This change may cause matchmaking to take longer so we ask that you have a bit of patience when looking for games. If you end up having major issues or lose the ability to match at all please let us know so we can provide a fix for you.

Side note: If you do run into hackers and would like to report them, please send their info to Valve. Here are instructions to help with that:

 

 

 

1. Open the Steam overlay 2. Click on "View Players" 3. Find the player in the "Current Game" list 4. View profile 5. Top right corner click on "Report Violation" 6. Tick suspected cheater 7. Put information in there and Submit the Report.

Probably because Robert (Trolling) Bowling only just left, and they seem for once to have a dev which some-what cares about the user. Of course, eventually they'll all just care about money.

So hackers will be still able to hack and legit players will need to wait longer for a lobby, awesome patch.

That's why we have to make the work ourselves if we want somenthing decent to play.

You could ask him, I suppose.

 

This kicking tool is how war was/is waged against the hackers, since IW is too lazy to have a working anti-cheat solution and ranked dedicated servers (which would somewhat defeat the purpose of this project, but that's how it should have been in the first place). There is a similar program for IW4 also.

 

The reporting tool was a way to send theatre mode files directly to those in charge of banning people so they could be banned faster. VAC doesn't support doing this- I believe these types of games (with theatre mode) aren't widespread enough to warrant supporting sending those files in a cheat report, and as such the people in charge of banning hackers never looked at VAC reports.

 

But, people were able to falsify the reports: the bad guys would try to get legitimate players banned by modifying that file (or something like it) and sending it in.

So the reports stopped coming in and the ban process fell out.

 

This matchmaking update should address that vulnerability; though I estimate that by week's end they'll already have gotten the hacks working again.
