Torrenting/file sharing should always be legal. What is transferred through these services is what should be governed as legal/not legal.

the title was piracy, so i shared my opinion on illegal torrents. but in most places, isnt file sharing already allowed? the reason they go after sites like megaupload was because of how much illegal stuff was being shared(probably because they didnt control it)

You don't have the permission for the copying process, as you are not the owner of the item in question.

The owner has given permission to the publisher to distribute copies of it in exchange for a percentage of the price of the copy.

 

In any other case, you are still in the possession of an illegal and unauthorized file which is equitable to stolen goods.
