A Bit of Peer Assistance, Please?

Опубликовано:

Hello all,

One of my first moves coming back to the community after my extended leave of absence is to continue developing my MW2 Specialist Strike Package mod. One of the major changes I decided that I wanted to look into recently is the way in which strike chains are defined. Right now, it's set up like CoD4's 3-5-7 killstreak system. Everyone has the same strike chain, everyone's perks are the same. I want that to change.

I want to be able to mod the game menus to make it possible for people to have their own custom strike chains when joining specialist mod games. I'm not quite sure of the specifics as of yet, as I'm uncertain regarding how to even begin this task. Can anyone shed some light here for me on how easy (or normal) (or impossible) it is to mod the ingame menus and rewrite what they say? Or perhaps even add on an extra menu to the create a class system that directly writes specialist strike chain data to your profile? I know I'm talking about real heavy stuff, Doc. Just trying to get a lay of the land here, this is untouched territory for me.

Glad to be back!

As EMZ said, making a menu for it would be possible, but the problem is saving the player's choice and transferring it to .GSC script. Stock menus such as the killstreak menu sets a certain value to the player's stats (I.E "prestige" is the player's prestige level), which is then used in the killstreak .gsc with the "getplayerdata" function. Unfortunately, we can't create our own stats, but I guess you could use the default killstreak stats (AFAIK they're called streak1, streak2, and streak3) and modify _killstreaks.gsc.

Oh my, this was very difficult to explain D:

Right, I knew we weren't about to be able to somehow write to stat files. Now I'm curious how to make a menu for it, because I've never really done anything of the sort. What kind of source files would I have to write to/create to make this work?

EDIT: I know EMZ wrote the in-game menus for Survival, I'm curious if we'd be taking the same route for creating a menu in the LOBBY portion of the game as well.

You could re-route _killstreaks.gsc to load killstreaks from dvars and set the dvars through a custom killstreak menu.

um, what? clients can't set server dvars, and even if, that wouldn't be per-player.

your best bet is a modwarfare-style selection menu on join and using menuresponses to set stuff in the player fields.
