Why do developers leave unfinished content in their games?

For example, in mw2 there was supposed to be global thermonuclear war, but that was never finished. or the fact that there were unfinished guns such as the g3. why do they leave unfinished content in there? cant they just erase the unneeded stuff, and if they finish it just release a patch for it? Im just curious about this, thanks

Sometimes the content is used somewhere else. For example, in IW4 all snipers use the m40 scope.

Maybe lazyness.

Maybe wanting to do a patch later that adds that.

I don't actually have any Idea, I'm just saying random stuff.

Some stuff is left unfinished because the developers ran into problems developing it.

but why leave it there? why not erase it. I wouldnt question it, except it happens in quite a lot of games, like in san andrea's 'hot coffee' mod

TW was actually a playable gametype at the start of IW4. About the gun, well, they mostly 'copied' the code from IW3, so that would make some sense, as it's not a fully working gun unless you modify it a bit.

I love unfinished content in video games, discovering about it is always a good moment, then trying to know why it hasn't been released and trying to know why it still remain in the game is also another pleasure and in the end it helps providing it's identity to the game.

Also you ask why they don't delete the content if not used ?

So I assume you always trash anything which don't have anymore use in your room and always keep it clean as a new coin ?

I highly doubt anyone do so, and same goes with video games, it takes times to properly erase this content and it's useless to the devs as anyway you're not suppose to know this content exist plus finding about it will bring you fun, so there's no real point in cleaning a game of it's unused content before release...

Mainly because they are too lazy to remove them, and you might as well keep it, it won't harm anybody, will it?

Well, it might harm them, if we are speaking about $ %, if some people like in this community found out how to make such stuff 'playable-ish', since that will bring more players to us, rather than to them.
