Ok so this is the same noise related to my other topic(a while ago)

there is this beeping sound(no specific pattern) that i can hear if im next to my pc, but also through my headset with the audio cable plugged in. it seems to be coming from my power supply. i cant remember what brand it is, but its 750W and the fan is pointing up(on the bottom of the case), because i could not mount it with it down. it never did this in my old case when the fan was pointing down.

i have read a few things saying that it could be dust, or its sending out too much power, or not enough, but i doubt thats the problem.

Its plugged into a power strip.

Any one got some ideas?

trough your headset is rely weird i had never heard of coli whine trough the headset.

Do you have any wireless headphones or something like that and see if you still hear it from the other room. If it is just noise from the physical components it's just coil whine and it's nothing to be worried about just annoying sometimes if it is passed trough the headphones means it's digital noise and and that means one of your components is fucked.

Fuck, I hear coil whine on my headphones too. At first I thought it's just my headphones being shitty (even though they are Siberia V2), but then I plugged them in my cellphone and I heard no coil whine. That means something in my PC is fucked?

Is your PC grounded?

Is your PC grounded?

How do I check that?

I mean, I connected my PSU properly. I guess that every electricity source in my house is grounded too. Can you explain further.

P.S. I also hear the kind of noise in my headphones when I move my mouse and when i play games. When I do nothing, there's no noise.

It's called coil whine and there's not much you can do.

Is your PC plugged into a grounded AC plug?

yes.....and what is coil whine exactly?

Ignore the X and check marks, but it shows which sockets are grounded and which are not. If it has three pins in the plug (with an exception of the CEE7/4 Schuko and Schuko where the ground-pin(s) are on the side or close to the middle on the socket) it's grounded.

Keep in mind that a power strip could have grounded sockets on it, but if the strip itself is not connected to a grounded socket, it's not going to work.

It's pretty much what the name says it is, it's a high-pitched whine or buzz.

German style, and yes, it's grounded.

Have tried putting it (your PC) on another electricity group? Like the living room or kitchen instead of your bedroom.

Yes, but didn't use headphones. I'll try it later.

also do note that especially older/shitty buildings may have grounded sockets on the walls but may not have the ground wire there leading anywhere sensible either

That would not be the case either, my house is 4 years old, and by the amount of money put into it, I doubt it can be considered "shitty". That's more often case with apartment buildings than houses.

I read today that coil whine can be stopped by buying a dedicated sound card, which I wanted to do anyway, so no need to worry about that. What worries me now, is if my PC is not properly grounded, can it get damaged? I don't mean shortening life span of components by few %, I mean something drastically.

It seems so. From what I read, only people who bought a new sound card said they found a solution, others would say that nothing could help them to solve it.

Of course it's going to stop, you're not using the device with the coil whine. You're better off finding a cure for the issue first before buying a new sound card.

And as far as I know it's not going to get damaged if you're not doing stuff out of the ordinary. Grounding is there to protect the user from potential shock hazard.

i read it......but the reason i was asking that above, was because you were making it sound like it was bad to have this noise. so could anything negative come from ignoring it and buying a sound card?

Nope, but what if the sound card has the issue as well?

good point.....

Edit: before i do anything....."dangerous" to my psu, i decided to try switching to an outlet from a power strip....and i noticed the beeping doesn't start till after it loads my desktop.

I have this issue when I use on-motherboard audio, but not when I use my sound card. So yeah, get a sound card. They cost almost nothing.

since you own one.....is there any specs i should look for?

Any creative, realtek or asus thing >$10 should be fine.
