there's one of those spiders on the wall right next to me actually, they're harmless. they don't bite.

That's Australian Huntsman Spider, they're harmless, except they are big and look scary. I had one as a pet, they eat all the bugs in your house, and leave no web around. They eat other spiders too. Good to have one in the room.

 

I belive him, those are very common in the room in Australia, and people don't mind them, as they are useful.
