LAN and lobby browser in the list filters ?

Featured Replies

Would it be possible to do so ?

The LAN feature would locally check for dedis and private matches and report them in the actual ingame server browser ?

And the lobby browser would do like the old fashion lobby browser availabe with the navigator but it would instead use the actual ingame server browser ?

If this would be possible MW2 would be one step further to the perfection it has already reached with IW4M2 in the past

This seems like a nice idea, I wonder how LAN server browsers actually work though. Interesting concept to think about.

I would expect a LAN Browser to work in the sense of pinging every IP in the range it has and if a response is found to check the port the game runs on. Amirite?

EG. Your IP = 192.168.1.4

It will ping every IP between 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.255

What about the port.

EG. for MW2 the port is 28960. Correct?

Scan ports 28950-28970

And what if the port is above or below that range? mate, its not a matter of just sending a billion packets and waiting for a return.

It would be easier to make every client, that opens lan browser, listen on a specific fixed port, that is just used for this lobby system and make every server/lan lobby broadcast his informations with IP, Game-Port, probably game infos like max players, map, etc, over this port.

That is how things like this usually work via lan for the most games.

Not the client is actively searching, but the server is advertising itself on the network.

Maybe you could have an option not to send these packets, so that the server can stay private/conserve resources.

Ha nice to see devs are interested in my suggestion.

Also if you still plan on an ingame friend UI you could add a filter to see the servers our friends are playing on (Yeah I know I have a lot filter suggestions  ).

But still I hope that implemeting this "proper" LAN feature won't be too hard ;)
