yes, but a lot of cheaters are from arev. Anways, cant arev people join 4d1 servers? if they can what good does turning off legacy servers do?

Every 4D1 server (Those "with legacy off" :> ) have /votekick. So even though people from arev and 4d1 can play on one server, you can voteban them. This is impossible with legacy servers

Legacy servers = AlterREV

AlterREV = No anti-cheat at all

No anti-cheat = More cheaters

 

I haven't seen a single support staff every say that the current FDO build is free of cheaters, but turning legacy servers off certainly helps to reduce the number you will see.

IW4m is semi-compatible with aRev and other projects, which means that anti-cheat can't be installed on all clients joining a server.

 

If this 'Project Synthesis' was to be turned off, it would mean:

1) Everyone has anti-cheat

2) Everyone can take advantage of IW4m's new features

 

Although, there is a problem with the current anti-cheat.

Banned players can simply make a new account, or even bypass the ban completely (or even bypass the authentication, so they don't even need an account).

 

Banned players can make a new account because currently, there are no unique IDs that can identify a player's network/system (aIW's XUID).

The reason players can bypass the ban is that NTAuthority has not bothered to create the key system, rendering dedicated servers checks useless.

keys are irrelevant, it's easy enough to create anonymous authentication. the only reason I haven't done so is that it'd exclude aRev players, which for many servers make up a large portion of the playerbase.

Large portion? Last I heard there were about 300 active aRev clients. And anyway, so what? It would be best if you just disable the whole project between aRev and 4D1. More features. Less cheaters.

 

aRev is will soon be dead anyway, look at it's current state.

Even if aRev players gets excluded, I'm sure cheater free servers will attract more players, also 4D1 has bigger playerbase as of now.
