Ping jumps straight to 999

Опубликовано:

Alright, so I cant play IW4M. I could play 3 days ago, and now I cant. When i join a server, it gets stuck at setting up game for about 2 minutes before i can connect (These servers are around 200 ping). Then, when I join a local server with around 37 ping, I cant play, because I lag like hell. Wanna know why? Because my ping is 999. Weird... BUT, when I press and hold tab, to see my ping, after holding it down for about 15 seconds, my ping gos back to normal. This is tiring. I wish there were less bugs. I dont expect anyone to know how to reply because normally IM the one responding to these topics, but its needed, so regular users feel free to throw some suggestions out.

But you're.....Tech support!

IW4M is a "work in progress" project. New errors may show up after older ones get covered.

Even though he's tech support, he's not some god. He's exposed to problems just like anyone else.

He could discuss the problem privatelly with the rest of the staff. But then he wouldn't be able to count on users experience (the ones posting here) and people wouldn't know how he fixed it.

So, be glad that he opened this public thread, so that everyone can contribute and learn from it.

Back on-topic:

My suggestion goes for some hardware problem. Either the internet connection itself or stressed hardware (like hard drive). I've seen that error happening once at a LAN party, when I abused some "features" and clients were hitting the limit of their physical memory (RAM). Whenever they hit their RAM limit, the game would lag.

I can't be sure about your problem though, since I never even looked at your task/resorce manager. But pay atention if your hard drive is making too much noise, or if you're hitting your RAM limit.

Ok so, if i were you i would start with trying to find out what has changed on your pc after you last played fine.

A software/windows update that may have messed up your tcp/ip conf.

Maybe a changed router/modem setting? Ex. I was unable to play MW3 when uPnP in modem preferences was on which supposed to help forwarding ports etc.

Are you able to play any other online game fine?

You are a tech guy so i am not suggesting having steam to verify your files or redownloading MW2 from a different source.

Maybe you can install a second windows with dualbooting and see if you also have problems there.

Maybe its your ISP and not on your end.
