Alright, so lately Ive been given warnings and advice not to do certain things as staff. Is there a guideline of some sort or a Staff rule post? I know most of it is just common sense, but it would still be helpful.

Well, seeing as noone else has made the mistakes you have, you are probably lacking some kind of staff instinct that everyone else has. There are no real rules for staff, other than to remember that you represent FourDeltaOne, so you must act accordingly.

Опубликовано:

It's not even about who's making mistakes.

As staff, we're supposed to be capable of defining those rules by ourselves.

There wouldn't be a sense for "staff rules" since we're supposed to be able to guide ourselves before we can guide the remaining members on our forums.

I'm not even aware what happened with you ToolBox, or to what posts does it relate to. But I'm aware that part of this staff is too young, and a bit imature (we shouldn't really ask much more from your age). But since we together are what makes this community what it is, it's understandable that sometimes some members expect more from the ones around (and that's probably what got you the warnings).

You have to understand that we're expected to be the best. And our credibility lies with our words on the forums.

(and here I am, trying to give a lecture at 6am, with my rusty english after 6 months closed in a factory, surrounded with raw portuguese speaking dumbasses).

Anyway, what I wanted to make clear is that we're expected to be able to guide ourselves. We're supposed to be the best, because that's how people look at us when they get here.

In your particular case, you're tech support. People expect to write a bunch of crap and receive all the blessings to make all their operating system work. They do that because they believe you can do it.

Each bad answer or bad attitude is a disapointment to those people and a stain on this community's reputation.

Speaking of wich... this goes to all tech support. I THINK (personal opinion) you should refrain from opening help requests on the public forum. You can use our private forum or the irc for that. The last thing we want is people saying that "4D1 tech support can't even fix their own computers and go ask the help of those they're supposed to be helping".

Also, FlaCCidCookie, don't put all the blame on him. There are more to blame besides him. But in time, (and with everyone else's help) people will get mature enough and will learn how to act properly on each specific situation.

I might be wrong at some point... but what I wrote was what first came to my mind when I read this topic.

And maybe I should have left FlaCCidCookie deal with this alone since he's Head Tech Support. But I felt some tension here, and felt like leaving some words.

Paulofonta, if we share our problems with the community that nobody else has posted, and/or is in the common errors and fixes thread, it will help the rest of the community in time. Also people will understand that we are nearly only human and not God or a machine so we can get problems too. Other than that nicely written.

2. Never contradict a fellow staff member in public

Golden rule!

Опубликовано:
As with Toolbox, every staff member has access to user notes - mcp.php?i=notes&mode=user_notes&u=24268

"The following warning was issued to this user

В» Don't ever put a personal donation link in your sig again. So who wants money out of this now?"

Ok, this goes far beyond what I wrote above...

On another subject:

Paulofonta, if we share our problems with the community that nobody else has posted, and/or is in the common errors and fixes thread, it will help the rest of the community in time. Well, that's what I wrote there in public, as an excuse for our members. But that's not what I think.

It's a fact that you (tech support staff) are humans, just like anyone else. Progression is made of doubts and study. But keep in mind the difference between us and the rest of the members.

We tell them to execute our files on their computers, we tell them to change things in their operating systems if needed... they have to trust us... they follow our directions because they believe we will solve their problems. And that's the reputation that 4D1 has.

I like to think that I'm among the best. But to be the best, we must act acordingly.

If you have doubts, open a topic on our private forum or let's all discuss that problem on our irc channel.

Otherwise we will have comments like this one:

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7487#p51085

wich in fact means "I thougth we could rely on you if we had such problem"

As staff of this community, it's our duty to help eachother, so that we can be better prepared to face our community.

As always, I don't want you to think that I just got here and I'm trying to set rules already. I just wrote my opinion.

Wait aCI detection ? ._.

Testing on aRev servers. ( 2DH )

So, as what ive read from above, it seems I lack common sense. Ill try to understand the concepts paulofonta came up with.

Sophos, NTA himself said on IRC that he doesn't use anyone to test hacks, don't know if this is the case here though.

Paulofonta, nicely written again, even though I kinda agree with you I have to say this: if we post a thread with our problems and we solve it in that particular thread it may cut down some % of users asking the same question.

ok, now write an another apologise letter.

Common sense, if you dont understand it, you really lack a lot of social skills

Assuming that they would read it :P We all know how they like to keep opening new threads...

Anyway, I think the right procedure would be for us to discuss the issues, and if it was worth it, include it on the common fixes thread.

Thats actually a good idea. All of staff is allowed to answer questions in locked threads in the projects section right? And by Staff I mean R-mods? Cause then only we could respond to it, and not regular users...

No, what I mean is to keep those doubts private among the staff. So, those questions are either addressed on this staff forum, or on staff irc channel.

When you post to the members, you're supposed to know all the answers. If you don't know one of the answers, ask the help of the rest of the staff.

For example in your thread, it leaves the idea that there might be a problem with the 4D1 client, in wich ping jumps to 999. My experience in the field tells me that it's a problem with your computer (either lack of hardware of malfunctioning operating system). We should have discuss that issue between us, before setting a rumor that there might be a problem with our game client.

And then, after all your despair in not being able to fix your problem (you even bumped your own thread, wich is something we use to warn users for) you admit that you're using windows 8 RC. And then those "not so nab" users will say "didn't he realize it might be because he's running a beta operating system?".

As I said before, we have an image to keep towards our members.

Don't hesitate in asking questions to other staff members. Don't hesitate in looking like a nab if you have to :P But don't do that in front of our community.

To be really honest, I also make some mistakes. That's why I sit back as RegMod, rather than applying for tech support. Your position demands a bit more responsability then mine at that point.

I see what you mean. Fixed that also. Thread is no more.

No, regmods cannot reply to locked threads outside their regional forum.

Exactly.

And let me stress an interesting point Paulofonta brought, we can't break our own rules, for obvious reasons.
