Hey guys, some servers are putting fov 90 for all players. Have any way to fix the fov at 65 that is not changed when entering the server?

 

I tried typing command cg_fov 65, works, but in all respawn back to fov 90. I appreciate the help.

Promod servers force fov and change a few other variables while you're in them.

 

They force everyone to use the same fov for standardization purposes, so it's more "fair" for everyone to have the same view.

You could try binding your forward key to both moving forward and cg_fov 65.

I know that used to work when changing the FoV to a higher value in aIW days for IW4, but I'm not too sure if it would work for IW5, since I'm perfectly fine with 90 FoV.

Try deleting config_mp.cfg that's inside your players2 folder

Console doesn't have a bind function. Try what I said delete config_mp.cfg

I don't think it will work in the console. I think you have to do it in config_mp.

 

EDIT: Deleting his config won't help him for this. It's the server forcing fov 90 on everyone. He gets around it by changing his FOV on spawn, but the server will reset it every time. It only happens on Promod servers, and only ones that have this variable set up.

So wait this is all in a server? If so then it's impossible to change your FoV back if it's being forced while in the server.

If it only resets to fov 90 when you spawn after you typed in the /cg_fov 65 , the bind i posted should work. (Not sure how its implemented in the mod/plugin, might be forced every 0.05 seconds, which would be a pain in the ass...)

Just when I die and respawn that returns fov to 90, if I never die I can always play with fov 65. I think it will work. When I get home I will test. Thank you again.

Unfortunately it did not work. I located bind W "+forward;cg_fov 65" in config_mp file, and switched to bind W "+forward;cg_fov 65", but in game a W key is not recognized as forward and doesn't change fov too. When I enter in options, a function forward is unbound. I think this only works for mw2

Hm...Anyways, if this one particular server changes your FoV why don't you join another one ? Why would you ''play un-fairly'' if the server uses 90 FOV as a requirment ?

Just wish it would work because some friends playing on these servers. they like fov 90, but not me. If it is not possible to change, just will not play those servers, but if it works, it will be very good. When I get home I will test The_InHuman's tip.

3. Replace 90 with 65

4. Save changes

BTW: cg_fov works just fine in-game, as does cg_fovscale.

Binding your forward key might result in client command overflow or something like that since fov is originally a rcon command, right ? Plus Ghosty is right, just join a non-promod server and enjoy your (lame) fov_65 :mrgreen:

It's a standard CVAR just like anything else. You could bind two different FOVs to A and D and quickly alternate between them and there wouldn't be a problem as far as the game is concerned.

 

And while I agree that 65 is a lame-ass Xbox FOV, the guy wants to play with it and is asking for help. He wants to play with a gimped FOV on a particular server where his friends play. He isn't asking how to turn off the walls or anything crazy like that.

Fair enough. You've made your point, plus playing with fov_65 on a server where everyone plays on fov_90 actually disadvantages you in my opinion.

For the issue itself: In this case, the only thing OP can do is to bind the FOV command to an easily accessible button, ie. W (as somebody mentioned before).
