I don't like the idea - some butthurt admin bans you for some weird reason and you are suddenly banned from lots of different servers. Would be good with some proof though

I am feeling hesitant, using this. I never Ban anyone permanently, only 2 till now, (that too not because of cheating).

 

However, I wouldnt mind if that same person is allowed to play, by some other Server Admin on his server.

 

Do Permanent Bans have any criterea? Ethically, they should be limited to cheating/hacking only.

Metaban is just stupid. It'd need really consequent people who ban for real reason or really obvious Wallhack or do I need to pack out the hack reports from the old aIW days. -.-'

And then, what constitues cheating/hacking?

 

Say, for example, an admin sees the killcam wrong and decides you have a no-recoil hack and bans you.

Admins are known to be unreasonable and incorrect at times- not always, but it does happen (just look at any clan's ban appeals page for "whoops, wrong player ID" or "guess that wasn't you" or even "lol I banned myself"- GK already has a reversal logged).

 

Will there be a standard established for this (i.e. aimbots/wallhacks only, which aCI should be detecting in the first place), or is any server administrator allowed to flag for hacks for any arbitrary reason?

 

(The best, or rather, only examples of 'arbitrary' are uses of the title editor and AUG M60E4 skin; GK has one player flagged for that already.)

 

I, nor anyone else, desires to be banned everywhere (instant) for 6 months, or even 6 seconds, for "he used akimbo FMG9 once, so I'm going nuclear!" or some other minor, petty issue.

 

 

Compound that with the boundary-crossing. GK's account has multiple instances of this ("BP guys posted evidence", "specced for 2 rounds on another server", "speced on NRNS servers"). What happens, then, if some random admin from across the way decides to enforce his own rules (I hate that gun!) on a server that isn't his?

 

If the people who shouldn't be under that control do not comply with Maverick Admin's rules, now they're banned from many servers. I don't want to need to send in a ticket to get a reversal from whoever runs that "authority" because I'm dealing with someone who asserts authority in a place where he doesn't have it.

For instance, if I'm winning against someone with authority somewhere else on another server, and he decides that he wants to win instead, all he has to do is update his ban list on his server. If it's connected, I get DoS'd.

And that's bad.

Well, actually through the Metabans website when you choose to follow a user/account of Metabans you decide which reasons for bans and or descriptions of bans you would like to sync for your ban list. Such as setting the keywords "wallhack", "aimbot" or whatever.

 

And if you check and only follow reliable user/accounts at Metabans you won't be syncing non fair bans created by kid admins wich ban for stupid reasons in servers.

 

So bottomline is not as unpredictable as a "Global Ban List" and definitively not as risky and unfair like that approach.

There should be a metaban list for aCI... So real hackers get put on a list as well as other idiots.

i get banned alot for "hacking" when i get like a 2 kd in a game.

I've been falsely banned from servers before, if that server had metabans then I'd be banned from quite a few, in short; Admins make mistakes (or get butthurt) and wrongfully ban players sometimes. I'd rather sit back and let aci do its job, or just have watchful admins on your own server who know how to !ban instead of relying on an automated tool that can ban players just because an admin from another server *thought* they were hacking.

 

Short: Local admin > Global banlist
