Windows 8 Release Preview to Windows 8 RTM

Опубликовано:

Guys, I've got Windows 8 Release Preview right now, and I want to upgrade to Windows 8 RTM. However, I don't want to lose all my files and settings, since the last time I lost them it took a long while to get it all back.

I tried the cversion.ini trick, but for some reason it didn't work.

Is there any other way to perform an in-place upgrade from the Release Preview to the RTM?

Get upgradematrix.xml from somewhere in install.wim, put it in C:\windows\servicing\editions\upgradematrix.xml and change the minimum build number for the edition you're running - AFAIK the sources\setup.exe installer reads the local upgradematrix.xml before it reads the one in the .wim.

(hm, no, that doesn't seem to be the case either - minimum build there is 8370, and 'win8' source version has fullUpgrade="true")

start sources\setup.exe, click 'upgrade' when you have the option to, read the report and do all the things it says, retry, and have fun for a few hours while it does a complete backup and restore and hope it won't wind up going 'the previous version of Windows will be restored'.
