First of all im not complaining about the service or anything, ive got the game on steam i can play when i want, i just want to express my opinion.

I know this game was harder to emulate than for example was COD2 and cod4 and i really appreciate all the work, but i dont like the idea of having all those checks, the auth server, the NP server and those, since the NP is for whatever reason very often down, i wonder are they all neccesery?

The game would be a lot more active/played, much less problems would occur and also there would be not so much pressure and spam threads about failing to play, or at least if the NP server was excluded and the login/auth left, since i never saw the login server to fail.

not having the forums readily available only makes downtimes make even more money.

so far i know and what i saw for the game to be playable would only the master server and the one that serves the stats be neccesary thought the stats could also be local since everybody level hack..

Also, you do know that the NP server has nothing to do with the money earned with the ads on the forum, right?

Ehm no? It has to do, because when its working the home page and forum is rarely visited, but when its down then theres a flood of people and that = profit

In this situation,yes. However, the purpose of the NP server is a completely different.

It pushes and receives the stats, it handles the friendsystem, it authentificates the users, etc..

TBH,I really like that system :) Makes everything really everything organised! Especially the "Authentications" but "friendsystem" doesn't even work :/

I dont know how it was on aIW i just recently started to play with FD1, i have nothing against it to be all nice and tidy regarding accounts, the plans and ideas seem good but its way different in the practice, i faced so far a decent amount of hackers already, my opinion is that right now the NP is making more bad than good.

 

The NP server is the optimal solution.

It pushes and receives the stats, it handles the friendsystem, it authentificates the users, etc..

The 1st is useless, the 2nd doesnt work (at least not yet), the 3rd is okay

I'm not sure the NP manages hackers...from what I've seen, certain people are assigned to ban (or i still think thats the case)...TBH I have no clue what I'm talking about, especially if the aCI is linked with NP, but my question is what happened to that old aCI we ABSOLUTELY LOVED!!! in aIW :)

Nope, we have an automated anticheat for the bans. And a decent amount of cheaters come from aRev and IW4Play, which we can't do anything about.

well then thats the problem, i dont know in what relation this project is with arev and iw4play, but i would cut them off

Almost the whole community would. It's up to NTA though.

We are talking about the necessity of the NP server. And you come here and shout "Server down"

depends on which part of 'tokens'; AuthenticateWithToken is basically used for authentication

tokens are used to transfer the authentication state (done over HTTP) to the NP service

the game would not 'become more responsive' at all as all these operations are asynchronous (outside of the weird Mono socket issues that happen with the file retrieval at times) - data is stored remotely for different purposes, like user-friendliness regarding not having to save any data when reinstalling the game or such

actually i dont care about the reconnecting errors in console, im just wondering does it actually make any connections or it just throws the errors, thats why i mentoned the toggle friends, if it actually doesnt make any but just throws the errors then its fine..

well by more responsive i just thought of that mono socket issue, it happened numerous times to me being stuck with retrieving stats.. i think there are more cons than pros for being remote, another very possible issue is the user progresses with his stats they fail to upload due to server problems or users internet and there you have it you just wasted your time :)

thats okay, the offline mode doesnt need to connect to secure game servers as its intended for lan gameplay..
