A problem right now is that some players are immune to kicking because they have funny characters in their usernames that the console doesn't accept.

 

How about making a change so that fourdeltaone only accepts usernames that can be seen and put in the console?

usernames are already restricted to letters, numbers and sensible special characters; these players are likely using name changing utilities

But first I would need the ID number, and the two ways of finding that suggested so far don't work.

Most server providers don't install b3 in servers and don't even give you the option to use the console so the only way to connect you server and administrate it, is using a rcon tool.

Most of them are garbage, it's impossible to get the playerlist most of the times with a rcon tool.

As a server admin i usually have to use the voteban function hoping that other people help me ban the cheater but, as you said, votebanning cheaters with strange names is impossible...

Those who use invisible names are usually bannable using alt+156 btw

Follow EMZ's advice. Open the console while pressing shift to open an expanded console.

Now you can use "/rcon status" and see all the list.

As long as the dedicated server is updated, clients are assigned a client ID

Also notice before doing that you have to "rcon login rconpass"
