I should not call myself a PC gamer if I don't bring this up at this very moment.

 

We have all come to terms with alterIW's untimely demise and in fact, now that we have this - I am glad that alterIW got shutdown. We had dedicated servers, emulating matchmaking servers is just not cool, mkay? It's all internet law and shit.

 

But now again. I have recently started watching a rather cool PC channel headed by TotalBiscuit (I hope that the majority of this website is familiar with him, if not- I hope that you are a fan of him by the end of his two videos.) and just prior going to bed I started watching mailbox (a series of his) videos from earlier this year. And our lovely alterIW came into question. After being mindblown I started listening with (can't think of the word, ffs) so I was like - great - he indeed stood for PC gaming as expected. Proven himself time and time again objective and cynical. :3 What I REALLY did not expect was a follow up on the first alterIW e-mail by some dickless cocksucker idiot who went on questioning alterIW's piracy inducing ways. And at this moment we should acknowledge something - over 99% of the internet is non-original, copyrighted content. YouTube wouldn't be this big if it wasn't for piracy. 99% of people I know just use it to stream copyrighted music and then there are corporations that are actually handling piracy the very sane and logical and finnancially sound way by officially uploading their artist's music into youtube and then making big on ad revenue. Which is the way it is supposed to be. Not with cracking down, banhammers, LAWYERS, CEASE and DESISTS and all of the bullshit that came with our on C&D.

 

But anyway, I went on a tangent about copyrights. As TotalBiscuit said it - it's not about piracy. ACTI doesn't make money from sales on the PC. It makes money on subscriptions (watch the second video for details).

 

I am waay to riled up by that person who called out alterIW's service, when in fact it was -

 

- better (dedicated servers, mod support were just the tip of the iceberg)

- free to owners of MW2 and non-owners (because fuck you, thats why)

- built a community, made a statement, alterIW is an idea

 

So I am just going to let you watch the videos.

I am trying to get a reaction from you all, and not the type of "let's DDOS ATVI" or whatever you wish to DDOS and boycott, but actual thought, to be more PC aware and cautious. Simply "watching" and proceeding doing nothing gets us nowhere.

And it's the gamer demographic, young people. You can start telling the truth - that this shit won't be tolerated anymore. That the PC community demands a little effort in exchange for our money.

 

And in the end of the day, PC is where the money's at, consoles are being preferred atm because they are forced to pay for everything, which is more beneficial for publishers in the short term.

 

Idk man, I feel like if we FOR ONCE stop arguing for idiotic things and stand up as a community in support of something, they are going to get hit in the wallet and going re-think their strategy.

UT3 is employed in a similar fashion. It has matchmaking dedis (whatever THAT means) so you basically go quick match - deathmatch - play and it connects you to some random dedi. And you have the server list. I applaud EPIC Games every chance I get, but they have nailed it with UT3. I don't see the purpose, but no negative sides either. :3
