Say you decided to move your MW2 folder to somewhere else on the system? That would usually mean you would have to re-install your IW4M files so that you can play IW4M again. Well, thanks to a tip from lmaobox, you can change the directory IW4M checks for the game.

 

1. Download this file: LINK. It is a .reg file.
    
   
2. Right-click the .reg file and click Edit
    
   
    
    
   
3. In Notepad, change the C:\\ to whatever you want it to be. (A couple of notes:
   1. The hard drive path (C:\, G:\), must have two back-ward slashes. For example: (C:\\, G:\\).
   2. Make sure the "" in the .reg file STAY EXACTLY where they are in the file. Only change the C:\\ INSIDE the ""
    
   
4. Save the file
   
    
   
5. Run the .reg file, and accept the warnings
   
    
   
6. You are complete.

as a matter of fact, as long as the iw4m files are in the moved mw2 folder it will work

Yeah, but this way the Steam version will not be available anymore, that's the point of new IW4M installer, it does not copy any files to MW2 directory, so you can use IW4M and Steam in the same time, copying IW4M to MW2 directory ruins the whole idea.

But if they're moving the iw4m installation out of the steam folder then surely they're not using the steam version anymore

Unless it's on a different drive which might be the whole point of this - if it is, then nevermind

It updates the registry automatically.... Just drag and drop the files from localdata.

This is if you have another installation of MW2 (like an aRev install), and you don't wish to overwrite it.
