Planning the release event

Опубликовано:

So let's properly start working on this. I hope that at some point people will start to work on this as well, so we can reach the goal of doing this next saturday, but there is a lot of work to do before that.

I've drawn up a document in google docs, if you haven't seen it, query or PM me you google account, so I can add you as editor. I explained in there how to properly add your ideas etc.

Now, I think it is best if we get a bit of an overview of who wants to participate in this, and who will be doing what.

I will name some things that need to be done, and you can post here with the things you would like to do, or if you have other ideas of things we can do, post them to the google doc and here as well.

  • Players: People who will be joining the server before release, and spread out over all server when the game is public.
    newline
  • Speakers: People who will be joining the "public" mumble/skype conversations throughout the stream
    newline
  • Streamers: Note: Tatar is probably doing this, but if that doesn't work out, who has the proper hardware and connection, and wants to do this?
    newline
  • Matchup players: Probably Tech Support and Regional Mods only, as seen in the Document. Basically a "professional" matchup of 4v4-8v8 depending on who wants to participate. Will be commentated and organised by Overkill (hopefully)
    newline
  • Discussion Topics: This can be a variety of subjects, from interviews to reviewing a mod, for example. Be sure to include your idea when enlisting to this. (preferrably add it to the document as well ;p)
    newline
  • Q&A with the staff: Basically users can ask staff members anything. We need a host (I might like to do this, but don't let that discourage you in enlisting for it) and people who will be in the skype/mumble session to answer the questions.

That is all I can think of right now, but be sure to keep adding ideas!

I just want to give some input on the order. At the beginning, people will be fairly lost, mainly due to the fact they won't have any idea of what is the livestream about. To catch their attention, I'd rather start with some "Discussion Topics" as you called them. An interesting interview would do.

We all know mumble chats are a mess, and (at first) I don't think that's what people should hear.

Mumble chat would work really well - especially since the permissions are fixed so muting, kicking, and setting priority speaker is now possible if you're not root.

Im specifically clearing my schedule and turning down other stuff to make sure I am fully prepared and available to commentate on the mini-tournaments for the event, so the question of my availability is, as it stands, a very reliable "yes".

Great news! Now, would you also be willing to set this part of the livestream up? Which would include getting enough people to play, creating teams etc.

Also, do you have an idea on how to properly do this, because the livestream needs to show what you are seeing at that time, so in some way you and tatar need to sync your moves..

Just for reference, I would love to play in the regmods v techsupport but I don't know if I will be able to make it

I have a competition in my clan that I am running and taking part in a few hours before and don't know if it will finish in time

I'll be on mumble and such most likely but I'll check the IRC any time I can throughout the day :)

If there's a match, I'll be participating.

Also, if there aren't enough regmods/tech sup for the match, we could add some gmods who are willing to play.

If I'm available and needed I'll join. Got a pretty tight schedule though.

Was it saturday afternoon-ish? Probably won't make it if that's the case; as I need to work from 1 till 5 (+1). Afterwards I should be able to join.

8PM CEST if I remember correctly.

Also I think we should begin advertising the event starting tomorrow.

Well, I already made a lil video for the spanish community (

)

Bring the countdown to the main page, make a video featuring the cw on the main page with a "prepare for battle" or so, getting that video into the facebook and twitter page...

I do think we need to properly announce it being a livestream, so people will actually be looking forward to it, instead of just a release, which would make them dissapointed if they need to wait longer after the countdown has stopped.

I can be here to participate :)

Unfortunately, my mic is crap and doesn't seem to like mumble (it's crap on TeamSpeak and useless on mumble). If we're short on proper english speaking people to be on mumble on Saturday night, I can try to borrow a decent mic for that night...

Well, you can at least play the match, you won't need to be talking for that. I don't expect any tactical teamwork ;p

I thought we would release the files when the countdown reached 0?

Unfortunately, atm I'm not in that capacity so I can't recruit players (we just need two more from the tech support team according to the Google doc, we currently have 4 global and 2 tech confirmed) to the tech team.

On that note, how am I going to be working with Tatar? I will definitely need some advice/consultation on establishing the livestream, as this will be my first time doing a real-time live event. I'm at work right now, so once I get home (hopefully 5-6PM EST) I'll start researching how to get this livestream to work. I just need to know how Tatar is going to play into this. If he can livestream video of the match from his computer and I can just connect to that livestream while commentating with him using any relevant program like Skype or mumble chat (haven't used the latter yet), that can work as well.

Since I'm the uber-noob here when it comes to the technicalities, I just want to get your decision as to which route you think is best.
