Synced time by the time.windows.com and updated, thought time itself didnt change. It syncs to my local timezone, right? Anyways i did as the tutorial for xp said and it still doesnt load, no matter which server i choose, it says "connecting..." i wait around 5min or so and it just fails to connect or something.

Hello all, I want to add some info about this.

If you have your computer/s in a windows domain, you CANT change this. Because the domain sync the hour with the domain server. I asked on microsoft windows forum and nothing can be done about this. This problem causes me a lot of trouble creating a MW3 server on my network, the only viable solution I found is creating a virtual pc disconected from the domain. I still dont find a solution for the clients, you cant join any game if you have pcВґs trough a domain.

you have more information on how to do that? Because the option for sync server is completelly disabled on workstations from a domain. (the thrid tab of date&time configuration)

In that case, make sure the domain controller has synchronized time -- you may need to contact your system administrator for that.

synchronize the domain controller does not work, it may be a bug, I'll investigate further. Login outside the domain or hosting a server outside the domain works perfectly, so IВґm sure the time sync inside a domain works really bad or has a conflict with this iw5 release

If you have an administrator account on the workstation you could synchronize the clock even if the Windows GUI has the option missing. You could either use GrossKopf's solution, by means of a third-party tool (recommended): http://www.worldtimeserver.com/atomic-clock/

Or you could check the Windows NTP function. For that, make sure that Windows NTP Client Service is running (w32time):

1. To check the service state, run: sc query w32time

1.1. If it's not running, start it: sc start w32time

2. To set the default service settings (command may be useless), run: w32tm /register

3. Manually set an NTP server to synch from (example): w32tm /config /manualpeerlist:europe.pool.ntp.org /update

4. Run a manual resync: w32tm /resync

If it works, beware that it might create problems with domain logins for that workstation, the Kerberos protocol can tolerate up to ~5 minutes disparity in the default configuration.

Thanks for the help, both solutions not working. Tried the grosskop solution and manual sync the service with different time servers.

I'm sorry to hear. But I tested this in a domain environment and it worked for me.

It might be because of the fact that I have administrative privileges on the workstation as well as the domain controller.

Anyway, although this method has been confirmed working for most people, it has never worked for me. Maybe it is a different problem but a friend of mine has a couple of servers running and when I try to connect to his servers I get "Unable to connect to host." after 10 seconds of trying to establish a connection. I can't discard the fact that my router's NAT may be at fault, because other people are able to connect just fine. And the fact that the time sync resolves problems is also weird, it could be that a part of the authentication mechanism could include a time stamp but that still doesn't explain how it would work when the client and auth server(s) are in different timezones and the only common value is the minutes. It's just too weird. :?

I tried disconnect the workstation from the domain, and works fine, then I rejoin the domain and still work! But if you restart the computer stop working again. Do you know what happens when you rejoin a domain? maybe if we figure out the problem we can solve it.

To complete the logon process, the time on the client and the domain controller needs to be synchronized - so it does so on startup. However, it seems the domain controller's time is messed up, which causes IW5M not to work.

I found the solution!

This is a mini guide if anyone has the same weird problem.

1. Open Regedit

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DateTime\Servers]

Create a new alphanumeric value with the next number of the list, can be 2 or 3. Then edit this new value and add the new time servers. (if you only add one it may work)

clock.isc.org

europe.pool.ntp.org

north-america.pool.ntp.org

2. Open Regedit

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\W32Time\TimeProviders\NtpClient

Change the value of "SpecialPollInterval" from hexadecimal to Decimal, and set "100".

3. (Optional) If still not working with the steps above. Just install this software. "AtomicTime Pro"

I have all my domain workstations ready to play iw5. :) Thanks for the help guys.

hello guys,

i tried on windows XP SP3

maybe i have a new solution for u, which atomic.exe cannot handle your problem or adjusting date/time

so to the point is :

1. u must download software name NISTime-32.exe at http://www.nist.gov/pml/div688/grp40/its.cfm

2. after installation complete choose menu file and then select server, example i did :

select : time.nist.gov (colorado) and to active port 123 u must checklist and then click OK

3. to try that synchronize internet time working, choose menu Query Server and Click Now

then messagebox date/time will be showing as time server located

4. then try to play MW3 multiplayer, waaalaaaahhh u're joining to server :)

5. don't pay attention to adjusting date/time from windows ( internet time server)

it's always showing error synchronize, just keep NISTime still Online then play MW3

maybe this step will be helpfull for u guys :)

Hello.

I had the "server connection timed out" error, and I tried this but didn't work. After playing 10 seconds on any server, I had that error. So I made a thread about it and another user - SH!FTY[PT] - posted a simple fix that worked for me.

If this time sync fix doesn't work for you, try:

If you connect again to the same server you had the error before, it works.

At least it did for me, and obviously for Shifty. Thanks.

Technically this thread isn't designed to be a fix for connecting to, just a tutorial on how to sync your time which has the possibility of fixing it. Also, this I think is a fix for the error before you enter the server list.

Yeah, but for some this didn't work, like me, so I thought I'd post this. And before the server list? Weird. Alright then. That's cool.
