can't see why you would not have an internet connection in this day and age

Because LAN parties often have to be organized in bigger spaces, like warehouses, away from any internet connection point (speaking for myself)

you do know connectivity isnt necessarily through a cable, right?

Here, you can only get a wireless broadband connection through a 12 month contract, not something suitable for 3 days, and not quite a gateway for all those computers.

And I'm talking about Portugal. There are even worse scenarios across the globe. Areas where LAN parties are suitable events, but internet connection isn't really possible.

Rural areas where I live either got one choice. 2kb dial up or 2 year contract of $80 a month satellite internet. must of the time it works but what happens when its off then its COD4. aIW was very easy to setup for LAN. :)

and for pesky morons trying to clone the service and steal users

I doubt they would leave 4d1. because you build features way beyond better then the clones don't have yet like aCI3 & Nuketown.. :D Just don't support Flashidoit & alterrev community again.

I would prefer an offline-mode for LAN

1. LAN-parties didnt die yet.

2. not every player has a (good) internet connection today (iВґm getting a 100 mbit connection via cable tomorrow in !!!2013!!! there only has been shit before and iam living in Germany fyi).

3. everyone that has tried to clone your service failed ultimatively.

4. the community wants it, i did a poll about this some time ago in the forums

5. why not ?

:D

You don't need a good internet connection to host a LAN Party,

Actually, you do.

Every LAN party where I've been, where internet connection was attempted was a major fail. Either the connection itself dropped, due to low quality installation, or the gateways kept restarting due to not being able to process the ammount of requests.

If you're talking about a dozen people, it's ok. Over 100, forget about it, unless you got good sponsors who can guarantee you the connection and provide you good gateways.

I even got an annual big LAN party (+300 people) in wich one of the sponsors is an ISP, and the connection drops quite often.

True.

I once hosted a six-men LAN with a 16k DSL connection to maintain any needs about drivers, patches and shit.

Even we didnt use the internet that often, i logged into Steam and played some FPS. The ping was horrible. It was going up and down all the time..

The 5 other connections were grabbing their necessary bandwidth.

4D1 forces the user to maintain a steady connection to the master server, but there are also the OSВґs which draw some bandwidth.

Offline mode would be better, less complicated and everyone would be happy.

And once again: 4D1 would do something better again than ACTAvision.

But IW4M can manage LAN networks connections, so it's totally suitable for a LAN party as soon as you authenticate to the server before the party.

This isnt over yet!

Also the moderators are interested in this topic. We have good arguments. Now we should find a solution!

There is no proper reason against LAN and there never have been. For ANY game!

Except that WoW-MMORPG bullshit. And even for them there are emulators existing trolololo

it's over don't argue with that, there was a LAN mode on the dev roadmap at the time but now it's not a priority there are ohter pretty neat things to be worked on, if the service is defintely shutted down, I'm sure NTA will find a solution to provide a good way to play to the userbase...

Well, doesn't mean that NTA will do it anyway.

Also Offline LAN is pretty useful when you're in a college like moi and the internet connection is so bad that even google main page doesn't load Q.Q

Also useful if you wanna get away from all the cheaters, pros and just want to enjoy with your friends ( actually being able to scream verbal abuse at ur teammates and opponents is amazing :D)

AiW's Lan was amazing,ultra low ping,ultra high fun :D

Would be nice to see this on IW5 eventually, but no pressure
