The Valve "STEAMBOX" (which is not a console) confirmed by Gaben.

""Windows 8 was like this giant sadness.""

Yes, 'steam box' will use linux. Let the shitstorm commence!

Some common misconceptions, koop, pay attention.

1. The STEAMBOX is not a console. I repeat - the STEAMBOX is not a console. And for the third time - The STEAMBOX is not a console.

2. STEAMBOX is not a console

3. There will be multiple configurations of the STEAMBOX , some if not all of them will be upgradable

4. The STEAMBOX will run a custom-build Linux distro with Steam pre-installed. You will have the option to install Windows if you choose to do so.

5. STEAMBOX is not a console

6. STEAMBOX is not a console (this means that it's not in a direct competition with consoles, but it has the ability to cut into their market)

The only Valve game that runs on linux is team fortress 2. Doesn't it mean that the other valve games will get a linux release too?

I'm hoping the Linux support for Steam allows it to play other games on Linux too.

I guess this will happen with the valve games. But I'm not sure about games which are developed by third party developers. It would make linux a much more interesting os.

Valve starts his console party too late and makes this useless...

Why?

1. Started too later.

2. Who who likes consoles is satisfied with the actual one.

3. It's useless to buy a new console after an XBOX PS or Nintendoo one

4. They should focus on PC games

And I don't understand why Win8 is bad... It's uses less CPU and RAM and have less services compared to Win7, so the games can be run more smoothly.

And if they want to focus on Linux do Linux client and games and not a console... I'm the only one who don't understand why creating an useless Linux console is good?

So they call Win8 bad... Using Win8 is really required?! Well what about WinME or Win Vista? These were a much bigger mistake than Win8... At WinMe and WinVista why Valve didn't do anything?

I see what the Canonical did there... Only money do things like that... They paid Valve, Canonical is live Microsoft, have much money and want to increase the market share...

Win8 was bad for Gabe is probably due to how messed up the navigation is. I'm having trouble with it. Plus, due to the OS uses less CPU and RAM, I conclude that people don't need to buy a new hardware which results to a decline in PC sales.

Doing things like that because of Win8 is a big mistake. Why they didn't cry because of WinME or Vista?

It's good because the people who will buy this won't even know about what linux is, they'll buy it so they have good device to play video games and if the console is good it'll make a good amount of people with a linux console, using those people Valve will have good arguments to motivate more devs to make linux games, wherehas installing linux on your PC...etc is way more complicated for lambda users and will result in way less user base than this ;)

This mean Linux will finally get some games, but I doubt many studios will make their games Linux compatible, except Valve, of course.

If there are only Valve games (plus very few others) on Steam box, than it will fail miserably.

Ever took a look at the linux steam shop ? there are way more games than Valve only games, there are also lot of know and least known indy games and I'm quite sure the hype about this will also help the linux gaming world ;)
