As said above, I need ideas for a dropquest-style treasure hunt we will be doing for iw5m-day.

 

It will be a simple 'enter the answer to proceed to the next level' type game.

We will could be using stuff from IW4M as the questions, eg. post an .iwd that contains loads of custom made stuff.

 

For the first step, my idea was that somebody was to edit Zer0w's gold skin (zer0w himself, maybe!) and change the zer0w logo to a iw5m word.

 

The question on the game will be something like 'I hate using the UMP.'

the answer will be iw5m

 

I need ideas, maybe stuff like custom achievement sound, so the getting an achievement sound is replaced by somebody saying '1233', then the question would be like, 'Can you get an achivement for me?', answer would be 1233.

How about changing the 'Modern Warfare 2' to 'Modern Warfare 3' on:

IW4M is a modification for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 adding various oft-requested features such as dedicated servers, modification support, an in-game console, field of view changing as well as new maps and other features to the game. Yap, that's nice, but I wouldn't use the UMP for it. Rather a less used weapon, with a link under IW5M tag. Like someone noticing the logo and being like "wtf!? what's that over there?"

Then the page from that link would contain the next piece of the puzzle ;)

The reason why I think it shouldn't be UMP is that most players use the UMP. And the idea of "treasure hunting" is to not expose everything TOO much. Putting it on a less used weapon would cause players to talk about it with eachother and bring them gradually, rather than having everyone looking at it right away.

EDIT: we could always have another weapon as another step... Thinking of that, what about the lens cap on WA2000? :o

 

Also keep in mind that this will all be packaged in an .iwd file, available for those who WANT to participate in the treasure hunt; it will not be a global update, so people will be actively looking out for those, I don't expect 'wtfs' to happen.

I would go for an IWD that would come silently with an update. People would only notice once they seen it on the weapon. And after the hunt finishes, we can just remove the IWD from the updater and people can go back to the original skin by deleting the IWD.

I think the fun would be for them to find out without expecting it to be there.

Not sure if NTA is allowed to distribute MW2 core files through the updater.

Oh, could decode the text using something. (zer0w talked of base64? anyone have any ideas on a picture that would hint at decoding using base 64? as normal people wouldn't know to decode by base64 necessarily)..

NTAuthority will commit a new revision of IW5M, one of the links will be changed to a pastebin ID. Pastebin will include encrypted message (see level 3). Paste the ID hints at pastebin.

The pastebin from level 2 will contain base64 encoded text, which should be decoded. Decoded text should be ~3 words, not too long.

How will people know to use base64? Well, 2000 snipers --> WA2000 --> Zer0w is designing a lens cap that has the number '64' written on it.
