Let's sit back here and take a look at what's up in the post: You may "appear" to be a complete failure, but we all know you're not. That's a given. That's not kiss-assery, that's just the plain fact. You got shut down by something you couldn't stop. That's not failure, that's someone not like something that you did (and frankly, I think we can see why... and I am totally not opposed to it.)

Did you honestly think they would not figure out that this was the most desired aspect of their game for free? Not to mention the fact that you did it better, I think it was a matter of time before they became angry with you. That doesn't mean you were a failure. Now that you have made an amazing project that tweaked the original developer's idea into a much better one, it's time to move on.

That can be these new projects that you are working on, a new job, a new whatever, but it's time to start fresh. Why? To show your resilience of course. Why not offer your services to some other gamesites? Heck, have you thought about some of the indie-games on the market? Can you tweak those to no end and create a community based off of one of those?

Developers in that area of the market tend to welcome tweaking a bit more than big corporations, focused on money and not the game itself. This thing about education... A) Education is everywhere, whether it's on the interwebs or in a physical place. I believe the particular one that you speak of is called "school." B)

I think everyone will agree with you that we hate certain aspects of education. Take myself, for example. I'm not particularly fond of math subjects in any way. You might find a particular satisfaction in things that I hate, and I in the subjects you find unpleasing. Just as you said, though, it's required to obtain certain jobs. I'm making a general assumption that you like programming games. What else do you like programming? Heck, do you want to KEEP programming? Is that what you want to do? Then why not program your own or latch on to another "project" or actual game by FIRST developing an idea of how to improve it (which you are obviously good at) and then asking whether or not they will allow you to build a community around that.

You can refer to the success of aIW saying something to the effect of, "AIW was a re-invented version of MW2's multiplayer, with a working anti-cheat system, support for mods, and dedicated servers. It worked much better than its original counterpart, MW2, and by far was better to play. If you need evidence, ask any member of my current community 4D1 or the other subcommunity of aIW, AlterGaming, what they thought of AIW vs MW2. Are you willing to allow me to tweak your game to a higher potential?" You are obviously good at realizing that games need content.

New development is necessary to keep gamers interested, and I believe you realize that. Get involved. You've obviously got a community here. If you were a complete failure, you wouldn't. I'm truly sorry that you're struggling to make ends meet. That should give you the fuel, though, to explore some new avenues that you might not be familiar with. It's hard, but it's worth it. That's what real life (not overused in my vocab) is all about. ;)

spend years in college to get fucking qualifactions when u already know the subject.

try to get a job as a software engineer (programmer).

just put in your CV that you were the main and lead developer of AlterIWnet, and tell what it is, job people might be impressed.

It's not that easy finding a job as a sw engineer. Also, I'm not exactly sure how afilliating himself with aIW would do him credit. Sure, it's a large and valid project but it was involved in what could've become a much worse law'n'money situation.

Don't say that about yourself. You are an extremely talented and intelligent person NTA. In fact, you are the most intelligent person I know. You have the potential to do great things. Don't forget that.

@NTAuthority The only real tip I can give you, is to go out and find some new real-life friends. I'm not trying to say you have no life. I honestly don't know how many friends you have, or if you have any friends at all. But they will be able help you much better than we could. And by the way, don't you have any relatives, that might help you? I'm not sure if this question was already answered, so i'm sorry if it was.

Anyways I started of thinking to donate some money to you. It wouldn't be much, but it would be atleast something.

And please excuse my bad English. It's not my first language, but I try my best.

I am just wondering how "friends" could help him in this situation, while a job could get him further and even proper education would get him further then "friends"

Because they could support him, socially and financially? duh.

Man you know what?

You should leave this country and all the shit around if you don't like them, by following these steps :

- Try finding a job, even if it's really shitty, you'll get money that's the most important (I can't believe you're not able to get a job even if you've have strange behavior to people or anything, even you could start being a blackhat hacker to get money by stealing infos and infecting computers just don't use 4D1 community for it  )

- Work for like 1 or 2 years

- Got enough money (12000€ or 24000€ if you're paid 1000€ per months) to run your life in any european country you want (I advice you Ireland or England because people speak english)

- Once in your new country, you start a new life and maybe you'll be able to study at college if you show off you reversing and programming skillz or even you could have relaxing job at network maintenance which is the laziest job which exist for computer guys if you study it

- ???

- Profit

That's what I'll do if I fail at exams (something which is mainly going to happen  )

AND dude, you're not a failure at all just be more sure of yourself ;)

this put a disclaimer in the download page and use about 2 or 3 % of every users machine to mine for bitcoins you could make enough money to live and cover server cost's (i hope)

this has been thrown around before but rely do it use around 2 or 3 % of every users cpu or video card and you could have a botnet good enough to actively mine for coins effectively enough to make a profit

... I appear to be a complete failure. Surely, I created what many 14-year-old kids call 'omg best free ever' and causes them to ask 'i want play' more so than usual (also known as 'alterIWnet', including the even-worse DemonWare experiments you all more than know about), but generally I'm still a failure.

You are not gonna get far with that perspective....

You should set yourself some goals. Once you get them, reward yourself for that.

Dont believe what your parents say about you. Sometimes parents arent the best example. Mine isnt the best one and i always keep fighting with him but it just doesnt bring me down anymore.

Whereas other people at this age (I'm born in 1993-08, for the record) have at least a shitty job for no reason other than some random income (or if lucky have an actual sensible job that requires some skill), have at least completed secondary education (unless definitely stupid or something terrible has gone wr-- ohwait, that is actually my case), have at least a few real-life contacts (bah, I hate saying 'real-life'; it sounds so overused), seem to be well-underway to their final position in 'the real world' (oh, that's a bad term too. the real world. really? I've read about it, I don't have any false hopes, mainly due to reading TDWTF and all that) and don't seem to be stuck in a country of which they can't speak the main language properly (either due to their parents moving there at a much earlier stage in life, or not having moved whatsoever), I'm stuck in a weird position.

How weird, you might say? Well, currently I'm a) sitting at home all day, doing nearly nothing except for reading the aIW and alterBlitz, semi-officially, asdfghjkl;'\ IRC and sleeping, B) not having any income whatsoever, seeing as my last means of income (around 100 euros monthly out of the quite substantial advertising revenue aIW made) disappeared, c) living on my own off of weird government support (German 'financial help for young adults being taught self-help skills' or something) which will expire in a few months with only a negligible chance of renewal (whose idea was it that I had to live on my own anyway? oh, wait, the people in the second facility I wound up in during my 2011 'leave', how I wound up there is yet another chain of WTFery; they sold my mother on it quite well combined with the issues I've been causing at home before that leave) after which I'll likely have to get a shitty job (how awesome, a no-skills-required idiot job, how great is that for self-esteem), relocate (as the current apartment wouldn't be able to be paid by a low-grade job) and not have enough time left for following an education (as those jobs are clearly meant for low-intelligence individuals who are to wind up stuck in there forever).

Oh, yes, 'education'. That thing that serves nearly no purpose whatsoever except for acquiring formal qualifications which most companies will require before even allowing a hiring candidate to get to the point of, well, being a 'candidate'. Now, don't get me wrong; some educations do actually serve a purpose (for instance, I can only barely understand a thing of matrix transformations from what I read online, and these newfangled quaternion things make no sense to me at all), but the ones some people (oh, and I will get into 'examples' shortly - don't blame me if you see yourself reflected in one of my unfair comparisons) seem to follow serve absolutely no sensible purpose whatsoever. To people who actually know what they are doing, that is. To people who don't, well, they do somewhat teach them what to do, and they usually wind up making garbage code :) Anyway, I'm quite adaptable to most environments (unless they require you to know [weird CPU] assembly, matrix transformations, oddly-parallel programming, image processing or anything algorithmic for that matter; you get my point) and would function more appropriately than some of my following examples.

[examples cut as motivation for this topic was drying up, might come at a later time]

NTAuthority greatest country.
