Linux = Not much knowledge of it, but from the one time I did use it I personally found it really confusing and quite annoying trying to install anything on it.

PC = Insane specs, can run many games on a custom build made of cheap parts. Could just be the fact that PC is consumer friendly. as far as "consumer friendly" can go for a platform that gets console ports all the time

 

But really, I don't think game devs prefer Windows. They prefer console, then they port their games to Windows.

I have an OSX partition and a Win7 partition on my MacBook Pro. I used to program on the Mac, now I've switched to Windows. Apple's OSX is not designed to be syntax-ish. It's a smooth, polished, user-friendly interface. Windows, on the other hand, has more accessibility available to the user. It's not as inviting or beautifully simplistic, but when it comes to programming, it is most certainly the preferable medium.

Not to mention that although it claims to be 64-bit, and runs processes as 64-bit, it has a 32-bit kernel.

 

Yeah, that means 4gb usable ram max. I don't even either.

MAC: apple always does this, its limited, overpriced, restricted, like iphone and ipad.

Linux: does not exist

Windows: its like android, easier, better specs, larger, audiance

Consoles: less hackers, shitty controllers that do not compare to mouse and keyboard. Really bad specs nowadays.

Mobile: mobilr games suck, they really suck.

I think the strongest argument for consoles is guaranteed hardware. It's why PC gets shitty low-end ports now, because we can't guarantee that we'll have enough hardware to run anything. As a game dev, you have to compensate for the lowest common denominator, and in this case it's hardware. Someone with some shitty office prebuilt is going to want to play your game, so you can't push it past that point. Consoles, contrarily, have exact specs that you can push to the limit, knowing how far they can go and knowing that no matter what you'll always be able to run it.

 

Windows vs mac? Windows just holds a larger market share, and has the framework in place.

 

Advantageously, pc gaming is a nice platform for low-end indie games, for both audience and ease of distribution. XBLA and PSN are giving them a run for their money though.

people on mac can easily install windows on it on a partition boot camp i think its called. so even more people uses windows which makes it easier just to make it on windows

What is holding back developers to develop for Mac are the costs I think, and the fact that there are more computers running Windows. Also, Windows seems to be easier to develop for.

 

Mac is pretty much the same as Windows, there's nothing magic about it, it just limits you in your ability to change things. Why would they do that? Well, simply because 99% of all computer failures have something to do with the owner messing around, hence the "Macs don't crash or get viruses" bullshit some people keep going on about.

im not trolling its just that mac pcs are prebuilt and you choose only a few different builds, they dont run the new high ends specs that pcs runs today

Macs get virus ALL THE TIME. They just have a closed source very good AV running in the background all the time, thus, making your MAC a whole lot slower when browsing the web and downloading things.

Who said you have to get the same OS as the devs?

If all devs code for another OS you'll get tons of useless OS's in no time. I don't think there's enough people who'd actually use an OS made just for gaming.
