[MOD ANNOUNCEMENT: 06.16.12] MW3 Weapon System

Thanks to Prodigy for releasing all the weapon files for every single weapon in MW2. With this, I would like to announce that my next mod will be a modification to weapon mechanics in MW2 to make things more like they are in MW3. What does this entail? Well...

 

- Maximum assault rifle/submachine gun ammo will be increased to 270 from all 180-max weapons.

 

- Cartridge capacities will be modified. The SCAR-H will now have a 30-round magazine, with a 45 round extended mag capacity. The TMP will now have a 30-round clip with a maximum ammo capacity of 256 rounds. Many other changes will be made.

 

- Fire rates on certain weapons will be trimmed down/sped up depending on their MW3 counterparts. The SCAR-H will receive a buff in its fire rate, while the ACR will receive a nerf in its fire rate.

 

- Damage scales on several weapons will be modified depending on MW3 equivalent statistics as well.

 

- Weapon draw times will be halved. Since there's no way to implement a Sleight of Hand Pro effect from MW3, all weapon draw/drop times will be halved for faster swapping.

 

- On a similar note, equipment usage times will be halved for faster deployment.

 

This mod is going to take a MASSIVE amount of time to even BEGIN to complete. There are approximately 1200 individual, distinct weapon files within MW2. Modifying them all (as they ALL must be changed in one way or another) will take many days, probably even weeks, so I wouldn't hold my breath on this one. This isn't something I can just have an epiphany with, code, test, and puke onto Mediafire. This is going to take time, research, and diligence. So while this is a project that will require some midnight oil, I'd still say you should look forward to it! It's going to be one interesting mod!

Woah. You, sir, are amazing. I'll be looking forward to it, if it is completed, that is. Also, are you thinking of including bots to this?

 

I wouldn't say "if it is completed". I'm definitely going to finish this mod, more or less, it's just going to take a bit more time than normal.

 

This is going to be a little bit different than my previous mods. It's not going to be in .iwd format or include any .gsc scripting. It's going to be a RAR'd folder containing all the weapon files modified like I mentioned above. You'll then have to save your original weapon folder to a safe place and move the new weapon mod folder in its place within your M2DEMO folder.

 

Since this won't be an .iwd based mod that uses GSC functions, this weapon system will be completely independent, and will run in any private match/dedicated server you establish, as long as the modded weapon files folder is in your M2DEMO folder.

 

So you'll be able to play any mod you want (or no mods at all) with this system. It's a completely new breed of mod.

Now this is something that I would really like to see done some day! :)

(although I rarely play,) one of the biggest problems that I point on MW2 is the time to switch between weapons. I usually use SoHpro because I like fast-paced gaming. I usually carry a Scar (or some sniper rifle) and a Spas (Scar/sniper for longer range and Spas for rushing). One of the biggest problems that I often find is that I'm entering some room full of enemies, and I often have to hide at the door to change to the Spas. I wish I could just change faster between weapons and just keep running inside the room, rather than hiding for a second to change weapons.

Fast weapon swapping and Stalker are my favourite features on MW3. It allows me to play in a much more intensive way.

 

pity that I'm an asshole at aiming :P

Using the SCAR doesn't make you an asshole haha. The SCAR-H is awesome (even more awesome now because you can unleash 45 rounds per mag with a faster rate of fire and lower recoil! =D It's REALLY a beast now.

Request: Could you make some of the annoying weapons (WA2000), into a better MW2 weapon, such as:

 

WA2000 into MSR?

Well that would require a ton of changes to the weapon itself ._. I kinda like the WA2000 xD

 

I am not capable of IMPORTING weapon files from MW3. The weapons themselves will remain visually unchanged. What you will notice in terms of difference includes

 

Effective ranges

Damage scales

Recoil scales

Magazine capacities

Maximum ammo capacities

"Raise/Drop" Times (Swap speeds)

Equipment Deployment Times (Same as above)

Launcher lock-on times

 

There's really no need to import MW3 weapons anyway. Many weapons in MW3 are holdovers from MW2 or near replicas. I mean let's face it, they even kept some of the same damn animations for "new" guns like the Type 95 using the FAMAS animation and the PM-9 using the Mini-Uzi anim as well.

UPDATE: I've run into a serious problem. The game crashes if you attempt to play multiple privmatches with the mod. You can successfully load a map only once. If you try to restart the map/load a new map/play another match at ANY TIME, the game will crash.

 

I have run multiple tests to confirm it's the modded weapon files that are indeed at fault. I've messaged NTA on it and will wait for his advice on the situation. So until I have a solution to this issue, the development of this mod is on hold.

Did you already test some of your modifications on a server?

Are you facing problems? (no-ammo-bug on first connect when the mod + weapon files get downloaded)

 

Im not running a server to test. Modifications are made ever minute or so, as I play-test each weapon one by one. I can't establish hundreds of server connections. Those glitches that you're talking about are an external problem over which I do not have control.

 

And the SCAR will not be overpowered, I am making sure that each weapon is properly balanced.

Awesome news.But remember...

Noobtubes and Launchers have to be like in MW3.Same with the Masterkey.And shotguns(PLEASE MAKE THE SHOTGUNS WITH DAMAGE BY DEFAULT AND RANGE).Also the Thermal should reduce recoil.Will you change weapon sounds.I reckon the F2000 will become the FAD?and Vector MP7?Get rid of the Mini-Uzi for the PP90. :lol:

Or do you talk about SP weapons too?

 

No these are MP weapon files. I got the files from Prodigy's post.

Not much help needed, its just going into files and changing a few numbers around. What I DO need though is help from NTA stabilizing 4D1 so that this mod works for more than 1 match before crashing. No ETA on that =P
