Ok, before going any further, what should we start with? IW4M or IW5M tournament?

IW5M seems to be having greater "marketing impact" nowadays, while IW4M has the largest experienced playerbase.

I would vote IW5M for two reasons. First, as stated above, IW5M is our "shining light" nowadays. Secondly, running an IW4M tournament, we might get aRev clients joining... (unless NTA can make some server files exclusive for our tournament, wich will reject aRev players from joining).

After deciding about the game, it's time to decide the gametype. I would go for SnD 5vs5, as it seems to be the most used tournament format (and we want to have the already formed 5-member clans participating aswell)

 

Write what you think about game and gametype first, before going into the tournament rules.

If you don't want aRev players, make a mod with a costum .gsc. Wasn't that what would get them to crash?

Or otherwise, aRev can't record demos, can they? Just enforce demo recording, would also help to deal with cheaters.

We would have a password, but if the people connect by IP, they can get on the server anyway. Commenting out the master server doesn't mean aRev can't join, it's just not in the server list.

I'm just warning you of the inevitable.

I know it doesn't work on Australia, but it does use to work on Europe and South America, and even South Africa (it might sound as strange to you as it sounded to me at the begining, but I got a bunch of PMs back in the aIW times, from South African people asking for help in setting LAN tournaments around there). Sadly, their internet connections don't allow South African people to play decently online.

Tournaments work, otherwise projects such as ESL wouldn't exist.

Happens that we're in the so called "grey zone", so projects such as ESL stopped supporting us.

Since we don't have the support of the already running online tournament organizers, we have to move our asses ourselves. Some guys here in Portugal decided to organize a small tournament (just 16 teams) and the result is that most of those teams came from Steam and Tekno, just to be part of the tournament. They obviously loved IW5M, and they don't even go back to Steam anymore (and keep telling everyone else to just drop Tekno) lol

I organize IW4 LAN tournaments since the end of 2010, and since I became staff here, I'm moving into supporting online communities in organizing them themselves (online tournaments).

These tournaments bring atention to our projects (maybe we want to avoid atention, maybe not). But there's no doubt that these tournaments make our community bigger and stronger.

This IW5M tournament is ongoing here in Portugal, and another online organization already asked me for support to organize another one, wich I told them that I would, once this tournament was over (I want to learn some stuff from this one, since it's the first that I organize it online, and I want to prevent tournaments from being announced while others are running, to avoid having clans choosing between tournaments while our clan base here in Portugal is still small)

 

I had already tell FlaCCidCookie that I want to create some rules for tournament organization and support here in Portugal. I'll take the chance to do it while we define here the rules to our own tournament.

These 2 years of tournament organization experience have proven me that a well organized tournament is without any doubt a major boost to our community.

Main reasoning was that the aIW administration refused to support official staff organised tournaments.

An IW5M tournament... I like that.

Ok, I didn't forget about this, and recently, I came up with an idea about it.

How about an IW4M tournament, in wich the winner team has early access to IW4M current beta, just like staff does? (codol maps and stuff)

Yeah why not? I would prefer IW4M too, because it seems that IW5M is nearly the death...

Well when we do it, then we can stream on twitch or other platforms. Maybe a global stream and some other regional streams (Reita :>)
