Not really sure if this should be in management or here, but let's see what happens.

I think we should get some stuff figured out, as the current situation is rather messy, noone knowing what the hell is happening, including us.

Not to put any stress on you, NTA, but it would be really helpful if you would somewhat make up your mind, at least regarding the continuation of this project.

Why should we consider closing permanentely when we can just take some time off?

Better than no one, a management staff member should know how things are going. You should be aware that Bas is taking most of the work alone, sacrificing his personal life for this project.

He clearly needs a break. Some time off, from time to time.

Although most of our player userbase are morons, the dedicated server hosts feedback is being positive. They understand what Bas is going through with this project, and they understand that he needs some time off. That's why they keep their bet on this project. Although our image might not seem the best, I've setup a few IW4M and IW5M dedis in the UK last week or so, and I'm currently working with some major brazilian server hosts to move more IW4 servers to FourDeltaOne. That proves that they believe in this project.

Let the morons fuck themselves and think whatever they want when they see our homepage. People with a bit of brain know that this project won't stop now.

What this project really needs is that it's structure (us) go out a bit and relax, to regain strength, motivation and cool mood (I'm gonna try to do so this week)

1. The future of this is still in question? Haven't been active on IRC but from the forums nothing seems odd, just no active development, which hasn't shown anything odd to me.

 

2. If indeed we are simply on a hiatus, the message on the homepage should be fixed.

 

3. Regarding moving forward, I really want everything back before the TNet changes. Old theme, previous site.

I don't know how everyone else feels but I feel that it would be helpful and/or beneficial to deal with these people some way - I'm not saying it's possible, but it may help

Well, the masses of 'stupid idiots' were there during the aIW time as well - maybe not as much as now, but still... That's what comes with a project like this. Leave the morons, and focus on structure. Changing the message on the homepage would be a start.

You do realise that removing the TNet and such would be removing at least 2 months of Bas' work...? I'm not quite sure he'd just scrap something as long as this..

I quite seriously doubt it, the staff don't need a break, we're not the ones working every day to provide stuff, we're janitors, here to clean up, and have fun, not stress.. NTAuthority, however, does need a break, but he needs to decide what to do, you can't force him to leave and take a break, his life, his choices.. (well, you can sure try to give him opinions and ideas, but what he does with them is still up to him)..

 

And as for the continuation of this project, most of the above applies here too, it's not our choice as the staff to decide whether we continue or not, that's NTAuthority's choice, but I'm sure I speak for everyone from the staff to say that we'd really not like the project to stop here and that we will continue whatever happens.

Speak for yourself. I try to support as many people as I can here on the forum, and I already burned 2 teamviewer licenses (I'm currently using a third network card) giving support to dedicated server hosts and some players. I do work my ass for this project to run smooth. People are asking me for help all the time here, either on the forums or by PM, my msn goes crazy, facebook chat is almost the same, I don't even feel like turning skype on anymore, and I'm constantly being asked to get on teamspeak servers to explain stuff about this project to entire communities or clans. I wake up every day and the first thing I do is turn on this computer and come here on the forum. Then I turn on msn. And then the day is spent between answering people's questions on msn and coming here on the forum between questions. Until I turn this off and go to sleep for another day. Some people say that I'm not that active on the IRC. I only go there when I have some free time from what I believe to be my main task, wich is to make sure that server hosts and clients are running smooth.

I didn't become a moderator to "clean up" a forum and "have fun". I became a moderator for the portuguese section because I was already representing those people by the time. And if by the time I was helping almost all portuguese communities, now I'm getting requests from communities all over the world. And I'm getting more requests because most people are here having too much fun and not working enough. I still read all topics on IW4M and IW5M sections, but I'm starting to avoid answering as much topics as I can, to see if some other people here start working on it. The ones I don't avoid is when I feel that it will take a long time until someone gives a proper answer to the problem (when I read stuff such as "delete caches.xml" as an answer to common_mp.ff errors, for example).

So, I do know how Bas feels about it. I'm not trying to order him to go. I'm just trying to explain everyone here that people need some time off from time to time, and that nobody has the right to request stuff to be done when that time comes.

I know what it feels to work my ass every day, and then be spammed whenever something is not working.

And then I even see some people here asking him to reverse some of his work??? This is his project, his development. Things are not supposed to be 100% smooth and polite. If development goes wrong at some point, the first option is not to reverse, but to fix at some appropriate time. And the appropriate time is whenever the developer feels capable of doing it.

And then you people talk like you clearly didn't even have a depression on your lives. Well, I already had 2 deep ones. By the age of 28, I still don't have a life. And I don't have a life because I had to "reset" everything on each of those 2 depressions. So, I know how it feels for a brain to be pushed. And I learned how to deal with it.

If I say that Bas needs a break, that's because I'm affraid that he might go through what I've already been twice. And if he reaches that point, then you got your answer about this project's continuing.

 

Sorry for being rude on this post, but it's hard for me when I feel that I'm seeing something that nobody else can see. Maybe it's just my impression... but what if I'm right?

I completly agree with Paulofonta, I mean, almost, if not everyone here has been through a though time, or even multiple though times in their life(I should know as I too have been through several of those). But you do know, you're not the only one constantly being spammed and constantly answering and helping people around the forums, you know... But Bas should take some time off, like everyone keeps saying for the past month or so.

I know that I'm not the only one, and you're one of the right people to mention it.

But we're supposed to understand and support eachother, not to behave like the kids out there and keep asking Bas to do stuff at this time.

I meant like moving it somewhere else, like beta.fourdeltaone.net or some other unconpicious URL while the thing is still under construction.... right now, having it there and it not being completed makes it a mess and makes the site look incomplete, and at least the message on the home-page needs to be updated to give a better view of this project, as it now looks like a shambles.

 

Paulofonta raises some good points as well, and while I don't agree on everyone of them, I say he is still somewhat correct.

As I said above, I didn't mean it like that (phone typing is horrendous, can't type out full paragraphs on that), but I meant it as we should move the public view to the previous sort of regime (without TNet), and having a beta site (beta.fourdeltaone.net) which would feature all the new and upcoming stuff.

I didn't mean to come off as telling NTA or anyone what to do, nor scrapping TNet - I think that when that's finished it's going to be awesome

I don't really know what to do - maybe moving the TNet service out of the public's view for a short while might help, however people will just bitch about it being gone then start the spamming again :/

if that sort of thing were to happen, a tonne of important stuff would have to be backed up (common errors threads, fixes threads, peoples mods, for example).

and the forum already has based itself and the community had based itself around a lot of posts already

and tnet needs to be completely done, as the current implementation of tnet is kinda messy

I wouldn't vote for a forum restart or for it to be shutdown (although it's ok if it's just something like a weekend or so). I think those could be the worse scenarios.

I say let it take as long as it needs to get things working.

Fact is that NTA does nothing else besides this project. How can you take a break from.. "work"? I mean, it isn't really that of an intensive job to take a break from.

That would actually lead to a shitstorm including post whores whining about their resetted post count. In any case it is irrelevant to restart. From a management point of view keeping what is created so far would be better so we have a starting point.

The fact that you are being spammed is a result form your own actions. So you shouldn't whine about that in any way
