Will IW4M allow pirated game copies?

Since there is no checking mechanism, the answer is yes, but we are not responsible for your illegal acts, nor do we recommend you to do so.

 

What does it support?

Everything that was in aIW's IW4M2 (such as mod support, dedicated servers, custom textures).

However, since Activision will not allow us emulating their service, IW4M only supports dedicated servers, and not matchmaking.

 

Is the source code public?

Client-side source is public, including the code for dedicated servers. The master-server source, along with the anti cheat source (aCI), however, will not be available.

 

Can I transfer my stats/rank hack?

Old stats from alterIWnet will be imported automatically on the first start; any other stat files can be imported using EAM, which can be found in any number of places.

 

Can I play if I'm VAC banned on Steam?

Yes, as we cannot verify which game you were banned from, this status is irrelevant. If you want to be better safe than sorry, make a copy of your Modern Warfare 2 folder from steamapps, and put the IW4M files into the new folder.

 

Do I have to have the DLC on Steam to play the DLC maps on IW4M?

No, as we cannot verify that you do or do not have the DLC on Steam, you will not be incurred any limitations on the client.

 

Is there any anti-cheat?

There is a functional anti cheat that is constantly being updated. Cheat reports are not allowed, nor needed.

You are missing the DLC packs/related IWD files for Modern Warfare 2. Update your game on Steam, or download iw_22.iwd and iw_23.iwd and put them in the 'main' subdirectory in your MW2 directory.

 

The client is updated, but when I play I have no ammo.

That means the server on the one you are playing is not up to date. Play on another server or ask the server admin (politely) to update.

 

Weapon index mismatch for 'destructible_car'.

This happens when attempting to join the EU Domination server. Apparently, raw.iwd is an invalid iwd file.

 

That error its not related to your clients, its a server problem.

You guys just need to calm down.

Whenever it happens to me, running MW2 properly from steam once seems to fix it, no clue if it's related at all, but eh.

I've found a fix for the "steam must be running" problem.

 

Step 1. Start iw4m.exe, wait til it says steam must be running.

Step 2. Exit steam and start iw4m.exe, it will obviously say "failed to intialize, please start steam and restart the game"

Step 3. Start steam again, open iw4m.exe and it should work.

 

-Step 4- If it wont work, exit steam and open it as adminstrator and open iw4m.exe as adminstrator too.

 

This worked for me, hope it works for you too.

The "steam must be running" issue is pretty annoying... I have played the game a few times now, but that keeps popping up. So here is what i did to get it running... It will take some time, about 10 min but you can do stuff while it is loading. I havent found out wich one that helps i have just pretty much smashed my keyboard until something worked (Not really). First thing you can do is right click on the normal MW2 in steam and right click and press "Properties" on the bottom. Press "local files" between "language" and "updates". Press "verify integrity of game cache". If that doesnt work try "defragment" the one under.

Or you could start MW2 and close it down and try to start AIW. Try this in different orders over and over again and it might work... It did for me, but you have to do it over and over again to start it up the next time this error pops up. Damn annoying.
