Thank you for your e-mail of March 9. As you may be aware, our client has been continuing to investigate this matter; thus the brief delay in responding to your e-mail.

 

We appreciate your cooperation and your agreement to cease any activity concerning AlterIW and related projects. We also acknowledge that, as best we can determine, it appears that the AlterIW community is in the process of winding down and we trust that you will continue to assist in this process.

 

We do, however, have an additional matter to discuss with you that is of serious concern to our client. It has come to Activision’s attention that over the last week or so, you have become involved in developing or operating a new community known as “FourDeltaOne.” Our understanding is that FourDeltaOne is a distribution and development point for a new Modern Warfare 2 dedicated server project, and thus intended to take the place of AlterIW.

 

As you certainly know, the development and operation of any emulated Modern Warfare 2 server violates Activision’s intellectual property rights. Whether you have purported to incorporate “authentication” or “verification” checks does not change that fact, and does not make the project any less infringing. Accordingly, we must demand that you cease your work on FourDeltaOne or, for that matter, any Call of Duty emulated server.

 

We are hopeful that we can resolve this matter quickly and amicably with you. However, we must have your written assurance that you will, in fact, cease your involvement with any Call of Duty emulated server projects, including FourDeltaOne.

 

Please feel free to contact me with any questions concerning the foregoing.

 

As such, I'm proud to announce that IW4M does not include any emulation of Activision's IWNet (or other Activision-designed, such as DemonWare) protocols, and therefore, IW4M does not constitute an 'emulated server'.

The DLC being free could be one point that they can bring up.

You raise a good point, but what do IW and Activision have to gain on a 3-4 year old game's DLC? No one ever buys it anymore, and I think people would be smart enough not to spend $30 for the DLC when the game itself is $20.

I pretty sure Activision is not hurting much since NT did cease his last work with black ops and MW3. emulation where??? its on Activision servers. let them figure it out how to stop it. I don't see why they care so much for almost 4 year old game that's generally broken. I don't see you going after others COD4, WaW, MW3 private hack servers. have fun knocking off the aiw clones. they all over the place now days.. Be happy we accepting your demands of shutting down alterIWNet losing 90% of our user base thanks to you guys. I think what Actisivion is trying to say is that they don't want you to make another master server to emulate gameplay - otherways they wouldn't send you that email.

 

At least send a message informing them about the actual situation and ask if everything is ok with your project.

guys, I would take this matter a little more seriously, I don't want to be negative but at least realistic....

I believe they really don't want anybody do do anything like this no matter if it's on the borders of legality...they will find a way to turn it their side.

I think this will be a long term argument with Activision....
