-->How to make a Dedicated Server for IW4M<--

 

1. Download The Dedicated Server Update Tool: HERE

 

2. Put it in your MW2 Location and run dsut.exe before you continue so you can download the relevant files.

 

--> Normally C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\call of duty modern warfare 2\

 

3. Go into the \main\ folder and create a new file called "server.cfg"

 

4. Open up server.cfg with notepad. Copy all of the code from this page (ctrl + A , ctrl +C) HERE, and paste it on your server.cfg file that you just opened up.

 

 

--> Or, if you want to skip step 3 and 4, just download this server.cfg.

--> Don't forget to change the map rotation

--> Make sure you have the DLC maps or remove them from the rotation

 

5. Rename iw4m.dat to iw4m.exe

 

6. Create a shortcut of iw4m.exe and right click the shortcut, select properties and paste this line at the end of the target line.

 

-dedicated +set party_maxplayers 18 +set net_port 28961 +exec server.cfg +map_rotate

you can add -console if you like the traditional console window. Keep in mind that there might be some minor issues while using -console

 

 

7. Port forward any port you put in "+set net_port "

 

--> 28960 is the default

--> Make sure you port forward on the computer/server as well as on the router or gateway

--> Make sure to portforward with both UDP and TCP or else you will have problems

 

 

8. Run the shortcut and away you go!

Cant connect to your own server? Cant see it in the browser list?

 

--> To connect you will need to goto console and type ''connect " then hit enter.

--> An example would be "connect 192.168.2.6:28961"

--> Afaik, 127.0.0.1 will not work.

 

 

-->Mods<--

 

 

For mods you need to do the following:

 

1) Find the mod you wish to run on your server, for this example I will be using iSnipe.

2) Take your .iwd mod file and rename it to z_svr_.iwd

--> In this example mine will be z_svr_iSnipe.iwd

3) Take your newly named .iwd and create a folder for it. Mine will simply be called isnipe

4) Then just throw your .iwd into the new folder.

5) Put this folder into your /mods directory.

6) Now in your server paramaters, you know:

 

-dedicated +set party_maxplayers 18 +set net_port 28961 +exec server.cfg +map_rotate

 

7) You want to add +set fs_game "mods/

--> It should look something along the lines of (I use my iSnipe example here):

-dedicated +set party_maxplayers 18 +set net_port 28961 +set fs_game "mods/isnipe" +exec server.cfg +map_rotate 

 

 

8) Run your new server launcher thingy (the short-cut with the parameters) and your server should now load the mod

To install a dedicated server on a Linux distro, just go HERE and follow the instructions.

code_pre_gfx.ff is a single player file. Not used by the dedicated server.

Now it works fine with batch file.

But when i run it with dedi watcher (both 1.7.0 & 1.7.3),server crashes constantly.

Here is my line in dediwatcher.ini :

I still can't make my server to use server.cfg file. if i manually write exec server.cfg, i get error couldn't exec server.cfg. Then I set up rcon password yesterday, modified my server in rcon tool, and today, everything is gone, even rcon password.

Maybe your file extensions aren't showing up and your "server.cfg" is actually "server.cfg.txt". Also, it needs to be on "main" folder.

OK hello everybody, I have a question,

I created my own dedi server and it works like a dream, connecting w/ ip:port and so far so g.

But then when I tried to run a mod on the server, it doesn't,

my iw4-shortcut.exe's target is:

E:\iw4m\iw4m.exe +set party_maxplayers 18 +set net_port 28961 +exec server.cfg +map mp_rust +map_rotate -dedicated -console +set fs_game "mods/rse"

 

and in my mods-folder:

iw4/mods/RSE/z_svr_RSE.iwd

 

When I launch the dedi, connect to it, I see on the upper-right-corner the RSE (the bot mod) text, so the mod does exactly launch, but I cannot add any bots,

/svr_bots 5 <------- doesn't work in console

 

Sooo, what do I do, any ideas.

 

PS. Ya gonna fix the no-dedis-in-server-list-problem?

Hey I successfully got the server, but when I go into the game and look for my server, it is not there and when I type "connect 192.168.1.126:28960" it says "unknown command "connect".

You need to type "/connect IP" in the sconsole..

Which vote mod are you using and is your isnipe mod modifying _gamelogic.gsc?

I get "Steam must be running to play this game." I've reinstalled steam, re-downloaded the files from steam. Been trying for 3 hours now, no progress, same shit every time. I got steam on, logged on an acc with IW4 already, that don't work, logged on my other acc, same result. I got the config, I used the server files, also tried to add the client files. Added everything from theese steps in this guide. What more can I do?

What do you mean it gets stuck?

Also it's normal for it to send heartbeats to the servers..

If it's not being able to use the required sockets, open windows command prompt as administrator and use this command:

netsh winsock reset

Might need a reboot or something after using that command.
